Nono Chkhobadze, chairperson of the "Georgian Green Movement - Friends of the Earth" declares that mudflow and landslide processes are expected to intensify in Guria after heavy snowfall. This concerns villages in Chokhatauri, Ozurgeti, and Lanchkhuti.

The former Minister of Environmental Protection calls on relevant agencies and municipalities to develop detailed plans.

"If fast warming process begins, in this case, rapid snow melting and mudflow floods are expected, with a particular problem in the Supsa-Natanebi basin - this will be a problematic issue. If there is no sharp temperature rise, which is not yet apparent, with low temperatures continuing next week, then other types of processes are still expected. More quickly, these will be landslides. Guria is already a landslide zone, consequently, this much precipitation could further activate this process. These villages are mainly included in risk zones, referring to both Lanchkhuti, as well as Chokhatauri and Ozurgeti. Serious processes are ongoing in Adjara, on the Trialeti Range", - Nino Chkhobdze noted.

According to her, early warning does not mean a signal, it means having a plan.

"We need to explain to each resident how to work, what to do, what to stock up on. When they receive a warning that the temperature is dropping and precipitation is expected, they stock up on necessary medications, food, or water," - Chkhobadze told "Business Morning".
