At the Bagratashen customs checkpoint, officers of Armenia's State Revenue Committee (SRC) thwarted an attempt to illegally import a batch of medicines weighing 61 kilograms.

According to the SRC, the incident occurred when a GAZ tow truck driven by an Armenian citizen arrived at the checkpoint. During the inspection, the driver denied having any goods subject to declaration. However, the vigilance of the customs officers and subsequent X-ray scanning revealed suspicious areas in the vehicle.

A detailed inspection uncovered pharmaceutical drugs and empty packaging with a total weight of 61 kg. An investigation into the customs violation has been initiated.

The SRC also reported that this is not an isolated case. In the first seven months of 2024, 16 attempts to smuggle medicines weighing approximately 340 kilograms were prevented at the Bagratashen checkpoint.
