Tamaz Kakhidze, the founder of Honeyway located in Batumi, told BM.GE that they had to reduce production by 40% last year. According to him, the reason for the decline in honey production last year was the lack of tourist flows. As he noted, 70% of their customers are foreigners, while 30% are locals.

"The demand for Georgian honey in the local market is low. In particular, almost everyone around Batumi has beehives. Products can be purchased in Batumi markets and online platforms. We have implemented the HACCP standard in our enterprise. "Honeyway" significantly contributes to the development of beekeeping in Western Georgia.

In previous years, we exported 40 tons of honey to Bulgaria. Recently, we see that Georgian honey is in high demand abroad, and soon we also want to expand the exporting markets," says Kakhidze.

As for raw materials, the enterprise has 2,000 beehives in the mountains and also receives honey from partner farms.

The enterprise "Honeyway" located in Batumi has been operating on the market since 2010 and produces 4 types of honey. In 2009, after obtaining a Millennium grant of USD 50,000, the enterprise was built and 7 people were employed. During the pandemic, the number of employees was reduced to 3 people; currently, 3 people are employed on a contract basis.
