Lending Increased By GEL 1.87 BLN In May

The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) published a report about current tendencies of resident commercial banks loan portfolio as of May 2024.

According to the document, the volume of loans issued by commercial banks (excluding interbank loans) in May 2024 increased by GEL 1.87 billion or by 3.43% compared to the previous month (exchange rate effect excluded, increased by 1.37%) and constituted GEL 56.38 billion by the end of May 2024. The volume of loans in national currency increased by GEL 535.48 million (1.78%) and the volume of loans in foreign currency increased by GEL 1.33 billion or by 5.47% in the same period (exchange rate effect excluded, increased by 0.86%).

By the end of May 2024, the total volume of national currency denominated loans to resident legal entities issued by commercial banks amounted to GEL 8.98 billion (1.84% more compared to the previous month), and foreign currency denominated loans constituted GEL 16.38 billion (5.90% more; exchange rate effect excluded volume of lending in foreign currency increased by 1.27%).

During May 2024, the volume of lending to resident household sector increased by 2.54% or GEL 721.82 million, and constituted GEL 29.13 billion by the end of May 2024.

Larization ratio for total loans constituted 54.37% by the end of May 2024 and decreased by 0.88 percentage point (exchange rate effect excluded, increased by 0.22 percentage point), compared to the end of April 2024.
