Lasha Abashidze has been appointed General Director of Georgian Railways. He was officially introduced today by GD First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, along with Deputy Minister Guram Guramishvili.

Levan Davitashvili noted that Abashidze brings valuable leadership experience from both the railway sector and public service, which will ensure a swift and effective transition. He wished Abashidze success in his new role and expressed gratitude to the outgoing General Director, David Peradze, for his contributions.

“The smooth operation of the railway is critically important for Georgia’s economy, especially in light of the ongoing development of the Middle Corridor. Our goal is to increase both cargo volumes and revenue,” Davitashvili stated.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Abashidze previously worked at Georgian Railways between 2006 and 2009, holding key positions such as Head of the Procurement Agency, Deputy Director of Freight Transportation, and Head of Operations Management. He has a law degree and a master’s degree in public administration management.

Abashidze’s public service background includes serving as Vice Mayor of Tbilisi (2015–2017), Governor of the Vake District (2014–2015), and Head of the Presidential Administration (2013–2014). He succeeds Davit Peradze, who had led Georgian Railways since 2017.
