Georgia’s banking sector had a good August, with total assets rising by more than 7% year-on-year and loan and deposit portfolios reaching nearly the same size, according to Davit Rusia, Analytical Director of the Banking Association of Georgia.

Banking sector assets reached GEL 115 billion, or about $44 billion, marking an increase of around GEL 7 billion from the end of 2025. Rusia said the sector’s growth is also increasing interest from individual and corporate investors.

In August, deposits increased by more than GEL 1.6 billion, while the ratio of deposits to total liabilities approached a record 80%. Rusia said the growth was driven mainly by funds placed by Georgian individuals and businesses, which he described as a positive sign of confidence in the banking system.

By the end of August, bank loans totaled GEL 76.45 billion, up 1.11% month-on-month and 14.83% year-on-year excluding the exchange-rate effect. Deposits reached GEL 75.67 billion, up GEL 1.69 billion in one month and 21.67% year-on-year, meaning deposits are currently growing faster than lending.
