At a session of Parliament’s temporary “Price Commission,” Lia Zaridze, director of Georgian confectionery company Sweet Country highlighted challenges local producers face with retail chains. She noted that during promotions, producers often have to write off about 4–5% of products, and unsold items are returned, causing losses.

Zaridze also pointed out the instability of retail contracts, which can limit producers’ access to sales channels once agreements end.

She stressed that local products should compete fairly with imports, criticizing that in many stores Georgian products are placed low while imported goods get more attention. “Local products should be represented competitively and prioritized over imports,” she said.

The meeting gathered food producers as part of the Parliament commission reviewing the pricing structure of food, medicines, and fuel in Georgia.
