The head of the National Competition Agency, Irakli Lekvinadze says the import of medicines from Turkey increased the competition in the pharmaceutical market, due to which medicines became cheaper by 60-70%.
"The price differences for the same type of medicine between Georgia and Turkey were 300%, 400% and 800%. Allowing parallel imports practically helped to make medicines cheaper. According to the latest data, the savings that the citizens received as a result of this decision is more than GEL 300 million.
The imports of medicines from Turkey significantly increased the competition in the market and the prices of some medicines decreased by 60-70%", Lekvinadze told "Mtavari" press club.
