President Mikheil Kavelashvili has extended his support to Georgia’s national basketball team ahead of their appearance at the European Basketball Championship (EuroBasket), praising the athletes as role models for the younger generation.
“I want to wish success to our national basketball team at the European Championship. The entire country stands with you. You are an inspiration to the youth,” Kavelashvili said in a statement.
The president also highlighted the importance of the Prime Minister’s recent initiative to develop sports infrastructure across the country, calling it “a key step” in promoting athletic development nationwide.
In recognition of their historic achievements, state honors were awarded to members of the Georgian Basketball Federation and the national team for qualifying for the FIBA World Cup for the first time in the country’s history and securing a place among the world’s top 16 teams. Georgia will also be competing in the European Championship for the sixth time.
