Mikheil Sarjveladze was appointed as the Minister of Health. Sardjveladze was introduced by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, at a briefing held in the government administration.
"As you know, during the past week, we had consultations to select the Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Protection. During this one week we had individual consultations both with members of our political team and with representatives of the medical community. One of the main issues of the consultations was whether the new minister should be representative of medical circles. Regarding this issue, both in the political team and among the representatives of the medical community, the opinion was divided. One part believed that the new minister must be a representative of the medical field. The second part expressed exactly the opposite opinion. Based on consultations, I came to the conclusion that both medical representatives and other candidates could be considered for the post of minister. In the end, I gave preference to a member of our political team, whose professionalism and experience I trust.
I would like to inform you that Mr. Mikheil Sarjveladze has been appointed as the Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Protection. He needs no special introduction. Until 2012, Mr. Mikheili was a successful lawyer, after 20121 he held various positions in the public service. To remind you, Mikheil Sarjveladze was the head of the National Enforcement Bureau. Later, he was the Deputy Minister of Justice. Since 2012, he has been a member of the parliamentary team and the Chairman of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee of the Parliament. I would like to wish success to Mikheil Sarjveladze, who will lead several important directions from today. These are health care, social security of the population, protection of interests of displaced persons, employment and labor issues. The challenges are many. There are serious challenges in all directions, however, I am sure, with his professionalism and outstanding personal qualities, he will be the best minister and will bring significant success to this field", said Kobakhidze.
Mikheil Sarjveladze replaced Zurab Azarashvili on the post.
