A child died from electrocution at Tbilisi Vake Park today. Two youngsters were electrocuted while attempting to retrieve a ball that had fallen into the Vake Park fountain, according to eyewitnesses.

Following the accident, two youngsters were sent to the Kichinashvili Clinic. One was transferred to a paediatric unit after his condition stabilized.

“The 13-year-old girl was brought here with a cardiac arrest, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and biological death was confirmed,” the Clinic said in a statement.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili extended condolences to the dead teenager’s family, relatives, and friends.

“It is impossible to find words to explain the pain that I am feeling because of the tragedy,” he said on Facebook.

“The most tragic fact! We are all devastated,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said while standing in the yard of the Khechinashvili clinic.

Both the Prime Minister and the Mayor promised that anyone guilty of the tragedy would face harsh punishment. The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched a probe under the first section of Article 240 of the Criminal Code, which implies a violation of safety regulations.
