In 2020, the monthly average expenditure of domestic tourists in Georgia during the visits equaled to GEL 147.1 million. This indicator is 4.2 percent lower than the indicator of the relevant period of the previous year. With GEL 53.9 million shopping was dominating among expenditure categories.
“In 2020 the monthly average number of Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years or more equaled to 910.8 thousand, who made 1.0 million visits on the territory of Georgia. In comparison to the previous year, the number of visitors has decreased by 8.3 percent,” reads the recent report of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, on Domestic Tourism.
Contrary to monthly average expenditure, the average expenditure per visit has been increased in 2020 by 9.5 percent and equaled to 141.6 GEL.
The distribution of the monthly average expenditure by categories was as follows: shopping – GEL 53.9 million, foods and drinks – GEL 35.6 million, transport – GEL 27.5 million, accommodation – GEL 7.0 million, holiday, leisure, recreation, cultural and sporting activities – GEL 1.3 million and other expenditure – GEL 22.0 million.
The monthly average number of tourist visits of Georgian residents, during the report period amounted to 480.4 thousand, which is 9.5 percent lower than the indicator of relevant period of the previous year.
The majority of the visits came on Tbilisi (average 237.0 thousand visits per month) and Imereti region (180.2 thousand visits per month).
