Up to 15,000 children have been enrolled in Tbilisi’s municipal kindergartens for the 2026-2027 academic year, while more than 8,000 places remain vacant, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at a municipal government meeting.
According to Kaladze, Tbilisi’s kindergartens currently serve nearly 60,000 children. The first group of children for the new academic year has been admitted to Kindergarten No. 168 on Evgeni Abkhazava Street in the Samgori district. The newly built facility has 12 groups and can accommodate up to 400 children; around 150 are currently registered.
The mayor said the kindergarten meets modern standards, is adapted for people with disabilities and complies with child safety requirements. He also noted that renovation and rehabilitation works were carried out during the summer at 24 kindergartens across the capital, including upgrades to interiors, facades and yard infrastructure.
Kaladze said some of the works were carried out based on recommendations from the National Food Agency. Renovations were also funded at kindergartens where the authorization process has started or is planned. Authorization is mandatory for all educational institutions and must be completed by 2030.
