Motor Car Imports Exceeded USD 1 BLN

In January-November 2022, motor cars took the first place among the largest import commodities with 11.6%-share, the amount spent out of the country for the purchase of vehicles exceeded USD 1 billion.

Namely, 131,941 light vehicles worth USD 1.391 billion were imported into Georgia during the mentioned period. The average cost of an imported car was USD 10,500.

According to official data, the rate exceeds the figures of the same period of the last year by 65.6% in value, and by 16% in quantity, i.e. 18,183 vehicles.

It should be noted that a record number of cars entered the country in 2019, although the total value of 144,460 cars stood at USD 1.007 billion. At the same time, the average cost of a single car for that period was USD 6,700.

The main import market for passenger cars during this period was the United States of America.

1. USA - USD 723 million, 86,997 cars;
2. Japan - USD 239.4 million, 11 489 cars;
3. Germany - USD 148.8 million, 11,715 cars;
4. Turkey - USD 97.6 million, 3,068 cars;
5. Belgium - USD 17 million, 2 334 cars;
6. Republic of Korea - USD 16.9 million, 1 241 cars;
7. United Kingdom - USD 15.4 million, 263 cars;
8. Czech Republic - USD 13.5 million, 753 cars;
9. Ukraine - USD 13 million, 376 cars;
10. China - USD 12.3 million, 1 388 cars.

As for exports, light vehicles occupy the second place in the largest commodity groups with 15.1%-share. According to official data, the exports of motor cars is fully re-exported. According to official statistics, 71,896 cars worth USD 762.8 million were re-exported from Georgia this year, which was 82.7% (13,915 cars) more compared to the same period of the last year.

Azerbaijan was the main export market for cars from Georgia for 11 months.

5. Russia - USD 65.2 million dollars, 4,654 cars;
6. Kyrgyzstan - USD 51.8 million dollars, 6,632 cars;
7. Belgium - USD 23.7 million dollars, 499 cars;
8. Tajikistan - USD 13.2 million dollars, 2 187 cars;
9. United Arab Emirates - USD 9.8 million dollars, 137 cars;
10. Belarus - USD 5.8 million dollars, 196 cars.
