Former business ombudsman Mikheil Daushvili says the new regulation, which obliges employers to control employee’s working hours, will be uniquely difficult for the businesses.
The regulation approved by the parliament of the previous convocation comes into force on March 1.
The former business ombudsman declares, that he has repeatedly stated in the review process that the change will not have a good impact on either the investment environment or the private sector.
Daushvili notes that the code is already adopted and now they need to observe what impact the regulations will actually have on the private sector in order to refine the regulation further.
"Even though we discussed the new regulation, talking about how it would be an additional burden for the business, that it would not be entirely incentive for the investment environment and enforcement would be difficult during the pandemic – the amendments are part of Georgia's international obligations and the parliament approved them.
It will be difficult for the businesses and will expand their expenditures as well, because major part of employees work remotely.
However, the law enters into force. We will have communication with the business and improve the legislation further depending on the revealed shortcomings," said the MP, adding that the main thing is to adapt the changes to reality.
