“The founder of Batumelebi and ‘Netgazeti media outlets, Mzia Amaglobeli, is ending her hunger strike,” Batumelebi’s editor Eter Turadze shared Mzia Amaglobeli’s letter with journalists at the Vivamedi clinic.
“In the wake of the Batumi tragedy, where two minors tragically fell into a trench in the Dreams City and died, it is profoundly difficult for me to hear society’s concern for my health and life. With the help of doctors, I will strive to restore my ability to eat in the coming days. I am grateful to the prisoners of conscience, Temur Katamadze and Nikoloz Javakhishvili, for their solidarity. I implore them to end their hunger strike. I feel a deep responsibility towards my fellow like-minded people, colleagues, friends, and family. I do not want my hunger strike to weaken you. You must continue to fight in my place,” the letter reads.
Mzia Amaglobeli, who was detained on charges of attacking a police officer, was sentenced to pre-trial detention by the Batumi City Court on January 14. She’s been on a hunger strike for 38 consecutive days.
