The waste management system proposed by the project is the most expensive that could be offered, - Nikoloz Khundzakishvili Corporate Affairs Director of Natakhtari told Business Morning.

The matter concerns to the manufacturer's extended commitment. According to it, the business has to take care of its own specific waste. After the law is enacted, the private sector will be obliged to collect, process, or export specific waste (packaging materials, plastic bottles, tires, oils, etc.) by itself.

According to him, the system offered for business is good, but expensive and the private sector cannot afford it.

“We have welcomed the system, which has been brought to Georgia based on the principles, which envisage integration with the EU. But, the depository system - is the most expensive. For example, Lithuania spent over 30 mln EUR to arrange the system, while 10 mln EUR is an annual industrial spending. Georgian business cannot afford such expenditures. Our request and demand is to start with a classic, segregated system and see how the process will go in a few years, ” Khundzakishvili said.
