Natia Turnava, President of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), participated in the 24th Annual Conference of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), held in Basel, Switzerland, under the theme “Central Banks in an Era of Digitalization and Fragmentation.”

According to the NBG, Turnava took part in high-level discussions focused on digital finance, liquidity, fiscal and monetary policy, as well as the evolving role of central banks amid global economic shifts.

During the event, Turnava met with leading global financial figures, including Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), to whom she expressed gratitude for the ECB’s support. She also held conversations with US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, People’s Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng, and Bank of England Governor Andrew Bayley.

“Georgia’s involvement in global financial discussions of this scale is important,” Turnava noted following the event.

The BIS conference brought together heads of the world’s top central banks, economic experts, and international financial institutions. It was held in parallel with the BIS 95th Annual Meeting.

Founded in 1930 and headquartered in Basel, the BIS serves as a hub for central banks and international organizations working toward global monetary and financial stability.
