Inspectors from the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Department of the National Food Agency are currently inspecting food outlets in winter high-mountain resorts.
According to the National Food Agency, regulatory oversight is carried out in both large retail chains and small retail outlets to ensure compliance with standards for the sale and placement of food. The inspections encompass proper storage conditions, expiry dates, temperature regulation, and the accurate provision of information to consumers. This encloses accurate labelling, such as the name of the food, ingredients (including allergens), colourings and additives, weight, storage instructions, and usage guidelines. Additionally, the label must clearly state the name and address of the food manufacturer or distributor, the country of origin, nutritional information, date of production, and batch number.
“The National Food Agency conducts inspections of food retail outlets across the country throughout the year. Considering seasonal variations, resort zones are particularly significant, attracting both local residents and numerous tourists. Last year, we inspected 512 outlets within the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region. Over more than 1,200 inspections, 92 violations were identified, and appropriate measures were taken in accordance with legislation,” the National Food Agency stated.
