The National Food Agency has issued an official statement in response to a viral video circulating on social media, which appears to show peaches being spray-painted before being sold.
According to the agency, the incident constitutes a case of intentional food contamination. As a result, a formal written request has already been submitted to the relevant law enforcement authorities for further investigation.
“This is a case of intentional food contamination and requires immediate response. For this purpose, the agency has already contacted the relevant law enforcement bodies in writing,” the statement reads.
The agency also emphasized that it conducts regular inspections of fruits and vegetables available on the consumer market. As part of ongoing monitoring efforts, produce is routinely tested for various safety indicators, including pesticide residues, heavy metals, and radionuclides.
“Information about laboratory results and any identified non-compliance is made public and is also available on the agency’s official website: nfa.gov.ge,” the statement added.
The video in question has sparked public concern, showing peaches being artificially colored with spray paint before being offered for sale, a practice that poses serious health risks and violates food safety standards.
Authorities are expected to release further updates as the investigation progresses.
