The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has issued an official explanation regarding the postponement of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) technical assistance mission, confirming that the meeting will take place “in the near future.”
Earlier today, IMF Resident Representative in Georgia Andrew Jewell told BMG that the National Bank had requested a technical mission to assess the progress of ongoing reforms and identify additional recommendations. However, Jewell noted that the mission, initially scheduled for this week, had been postponed indefinitely due to NBG Governor Natia Turnava’s visit to China.
In response to BMG’s inquiry, the National Bank released a statement clarifying the situation:
“The technical assistance mission requested by the National Bank of Georgia to the IMF has been temporarily postponed, based on an agreement with the IMF, due to changes in the schedule of the President of the National Bank.
The meeting, which was planned during the visit to Washington, D.C., during the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, will take place in the near future. At this stage, a new date is being agreed.
We would like to remind you that this is a technical mission, within the framework of which the steps already taken in accordance with the IMF recommendations will be assessed and future changes will be discussed.”
