National Bank of Georgia (NBG) President Natia Turnava has described the allegations involving board member Nana Keinishvili as an “unfortunate fact,” saying the central bank acted promptly by referring the matter to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Turnava said the NBG conducted an internal documentary review within its authority but could not investigate a board member directly under the existing legal framework. She welcomed Keinishvili’s decision to resign and said she had been excluded from board decision-making meetings while the matter was being clarified.
The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating alleged unlawful business activity based on statements and audio recordings submitted by executives of Bitxchange LLC. They allege that Keinishvili was involved in business activities and sought a stake in a company regulated by the NBG. These allegations have not been established as fact, and Keinishvili has categorically denied them.
On October 10, 2026, the NBG board temporarily removed Kveinishvili from the decision-making process. She announced on October 17 that she was leaving her position, while rejecting the accusations against her. The investigation follows claims that she sought an ownership stake in Bitxchange, which was later fined more than GEL 500 million by the NBG in 2026.
