Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of Lelo, thinks that the president of the National Bank should resign. The MP names double-digit inflation among the reasons and states that the fact is that the National Bank is not performing its function properly.

Badri Japaridze made a statement at the sitting of the Budget and Finance Committee. The Committee discussed the Draft Monetary-Credit and Currency Policy Directions for 2022-2024 introduced by the President of the National Bank, Koba Gvenetadze yesterday.

"The main task of the National Bank is to ensure price stability, and the goal of monetary policy is to have low inflation, low interest rates and high employment. The performance of the NBG should be evaluated in terms of how it copes with its core tasks.

We must directly say that the President of the National Bank cannot cope with these challenges, because we have catastrophic inflation in the country; interest rates also increase due to the increase of refinancing rates. Ultimately, all of this gives us reason to conclude that the NBG and its President have failed to accomplish the key task,” said Badri Japaridze.
