National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has issued an official statement in regards to the upcoming committee hearing on TBC Bank Case at the Parliament of Georgia.

In the official statement NBG admits that Governor Koba Gvenetadze will not be attending the committee hearing tomorrow.

“National Bank of Georgia is the regulator institution of financial and bank sector in Georgia and it is one of the most important guarantees for country’s financial-economic stability. NBG is monitoring financial organizations, as well as banks on a regular basis.”

The statement also reads that “NBG is always transparent in its work and it always responds to the questions of legislative body in accordance to the rules and procedures. However, guided by the principle of protecting commercial secrets, we do not think it is right to discuss the decisions of oversight body [NBG] regarding one specific bank, keeping in mind the importance of regulator’s role.”

Another part of NBG’s statement reads that “National Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank issued joint statement on February 21, in which both sides agree that issue that committee is planning to discuss has already been sorted out”

The statement also emphasizes that the NBG has ended all court disputes with the TBC Bank and that it has already published all the additional details regarding the case, which should be answering all the questions.
