NCDC released a statement regarding the new strain of coronavirus:

"The Lugar Research Center of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health has completed a genetic analysis of the samples found to determine the presence of a new "British" strain of coronavirus in the country.

There were 3 suspicious cases in the study in total. In 2 cases the existence of this strain has not been proved. In one sample, taken in December, a mutation characteristic of the new "British" strain S gene was confirmed. A patient is a man over 50, whose condition is satisfactory and is in isolation. His contacts are identified. A positive sample of one contact was found, which entered Georgia from another country and has already returned to the same country. Sequencing of its sample is also carried out.

Recall that the mutation detected in the UK has already been confirmed in more than 30 countries around the world, and according to the current date may be linked to the easier spread of the virus, but does not affect the severity of the disease," - reads the statement.
