Georgia’s Wine National Agency says that amendments to the “Vine and Wine Law” introduce new rules for establishing commercial vineyards. All individuals who planted vineyards by May 1, 2026 and have not yet registered them in the national cadastral database must complete registration by May 1, 2026 through the agency’s regional representatives.

Under the new regulations, after May 1, 2026, new vineyards intended for commercial production may only be planted with prior approval from the Wine National Agency. Any vineyards established without authorization will not be eligible for commercial sale of grapes or wine.

The rules apply exclusively to commercial vineyards and do not concern individuals growing grapes for personal use. Approval for vineyard planting will be issued free of charge, according to the agency.

The reform is part of broader efforts to improve wine quality standards in Georgia by regulating vineyard planning and ensuring compliance with technical requirements for higher-quality grape production and winemaking.
