No electricity transit through Georgia was recorded in the first eight months of 2026, according to data from the Georgian State Electrosystem. Georgia’s transmission lines are typically used by Azerbaijan to transit electricity to Turkey for export, but no such transit has taken place this year.
Electricity transit through Georgia also declined significantly in 2025. According to the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), 870 million kWh was transited last year, 19% less than in 2024 and four times lower than in 2023.
Of the 870 million kWh transited in 2025, 646 million kWh moved from Azerbaijan to Turkey, down 36% year-on-year. Another 179 million kWh was transited from Russia to Turkey, up 200%, while 45 million kWh moved from Armenia to Turkey. No Armenia-Turkey transit was recorded in 2024.
Over the past five years, electricity transit through Georgia reached 1.184 billion kWh in 2021, 3.16 billion kWh in 2022, 3.444 billion kWh in 2023, 1.074 billion kWh in 2024 and 870 million kWh in 2025. The record volumes in 2022–2023 were linked to higher electricity prices in Turkey.
