A tourist facility called “Datviani Rancho” in Tskhvarichamia is facing the risk of closure, as its founder, Ivane Mindorashvili, says that under current conditions, continuing operations has practically lost its meaning. He explained in an interview with BM.GE that the situation has significantly worsened since the end of the 2025 summer season.
According to Mindorashvili, tourism across the country sharply declined after last summer, affecting not only his business but the entire sector. Despite the downturn, the company continued to invest in development, expanding cottages, adding a swimming pool, relaxation areas, and a “forest kitchen” where guests can cook their own meals. Around 60,000 GEL was spent on these upgrades.
However, 2026 has started even more difficultly. Mindorashvili says tourism is currently “almost dead,” with very few foreign visitors entering the country and similar challenges faced by competitors. Even though operators have reduced prices, demand remains extremely low, as both international tourists are absent and local customers are struggling with rising living costs and stagnant wages.
He added that occupancy rates have dropped dramatically, from 50–60% per cottage last year to just two bookings in March this year. “This is practically zero load; two rentals cannot cover expenses. The business is effectively at a standstill,” he said, warning that without meaningful support for tourism, the sector has little prospect for recovery.
