Vano Doborjginidze, director of Guria Fish Farming declares, that Norwegian salmon will probably appear on the Georgian market from the fall, noting that there are many challenges that hinder the process. According to Doborjginidze, enterprise construction is at the final stage, but there is no laboratory, which is necessary to create a farm.
As he notes, they are planning to solve the problem of the laboratory by their own efforts and will open a private laboratory in the near future. However, they approach this process with great caution, consider various proposals, Guria Fish Farming will make a decision only taking into account the correct recommendations.
The director of Guria Fish Farming also talks about the potential of Georgian aquaculture and notes that the development of this sector will bring significant income to the country.
"At the first stage, we are going to sell 700 tons of salmon, however, this figure will increase over time, and I think that after satisfying the local demand, we will be able to enter the export markets", Vano Doborjginidze explains.
The Guria Fish Farming is setting up a farm in the village of Tskaltsminda, Lanchkhuti district, on an area of 10 hectares, with the fishes imported from Norway. The total investment of the project is GEL 200 million.
