At the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year, there were 2 296 general education institutions in Georgia, including 2 086 public and 210 private schools. Number of schools decreased by 6 unit compared to the previous school year. By region, most of schools (17.1%) are located in Imereti.
At the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year, 634.3 thousand pupils were studied in general education institutions, which is 0.2 percent higher compared to the same indicator of the previous school year. 89.5 percent of pupils attend public schools and 10.5 percent – private schools. Of the total number of pupils, 48.2 percent are girls, while 51.8 percent are boys. Among the regions, most of pupils (35.5 %) study in Tbilisi.
In the 2023/2024 school year, information and communication technology subjects (the subjects are compulsory in I, V and VI grades) are taught by 166.9 thousand pupil, which is 3.1 percent lower compared to the same indicator of the previous school year.
In 2023, 47 291 pupils graduated from upper secondary school, that is 4.1 percent higher compared to the same indicator of the previous year. 56.6 thousand pupil graduated from primary education, that is 6.0 percent higher compared to the previous year and 46.8 thousand pupil – from basic education, that is 3.9 percent higher compared to the previous year.
At the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year, 63.7 thousand teacher were employed in general education institutions, which is 2.2 percent higher compared to the same indicator of the previous year. The majority of teachers are women, in particular, the share of women is 87.5
percent while the share of men - 12.5 percent.
