The number of students and teachers in Georgian schools continued to grow in 2025. According to Geostat, the 2025/2026 academic year recorded a total of 644.2 thousand students, an increase of 0.6% compared to the previous year.
Across Georgia, there are 2,292 schools, including 2,086 public and 206 private institutions. Public schools host 572 thousand students, up 0.3%, while private schools enroll 72 thousand students, marking a 2.4% increase. Boys make up 51.6% of students, with girls at 48.4%, and the capital remains the most densely populated educational area, with 36% of students.
The teaching staff is also expanding. By the start of the academic year, 66.3 thousand teachers were employed, up 0.5% from the previous year. Female teachers constitute 87.6% of the workforce, with men making up only 12.4%.
Despite the rise in students and teachers, the total number of schools decreased slightly by two units compared to last year, reflecting ongoing consolidation efforts within the education system.
