Only one transaction has been recorded on the Georgian Stock Exchange (GSE) so far this year.

Specifically, a trade involving shares of JSC Liberty Bank (the issuer), worth GEL 3,000, took place on January 21.

Notably, a total of just nine transactions were registered on the exchange last year, with a combined value of GEL 26,905.

According to the GSE archives, the exchange was significantly more active in the early 2000s. During that period, many private companies - established after the first wave of privatization - were listed and traded on the exchange. Historical data shows that trading volume reached GEL 5.9 million in 2000, GEL 13 million in 2001, and GEL 46 million in 2004. The highest trading volume was recorded in 2005, reaching GEL 62 million.

This long-term decline highlights a 25-year downward trend in Georgia’s capital market activity.
