Director of Tbilisi Zoo Zurab Gurielidze declares, that the construction of aviaries for animals on the territory of the Tbilisi Sea is a constant process.
The cost of New Tbilisi Zoo project is about 45 million USD.
Director of Tbilisi Zoo says that today wolves, bears, horses, lynxes, deer, reptiles, lizards, West and East Caucasian goats, camels and African are already transported from the old zoo to the new aviaries.
According to him, the aviaries of African animals will be located on 7.5-8.0 ha and their cost will be about 1.7 million GEL.
"We do the project in accordance of the funding. Special terms are not set for the new Zoo project.
The construction of the African savannah is funded entirely from the budget. The tender will be announced in a few days. We want to announce a tender at such a time, when there is the interest. According to this project, a big lake should be made for behemoths, a winter building for behemoths and giraffes, and if we include an antelope house as well,” said Zurab Gurielidze.
However, Zurab Gurielidze declares, that the opening date of New Tbilisi Zoo at Tbilisi Sea is unknown and infrastructure is merely arranged for the animals at this stage.
According to Zurab Gurielidze, the following sums were spent on the aviaries so far: aviaries - 1.2 million GEL; 120 thousand EUR on the cages of reptiles, deer, bears, wolves; Construction of aviaries for bison - 100 000 GEL; African dogs - up to 200,000 GEL; Lynx - up to 50 000 GEL.
