The consent of the German Parliament is required for the opening of negotiations on joining the European Union, in the current situation there is no chance for this to happen for Georgia. The German ambassador, Peter Fischer, publishes the corresponding statement on his own page of X.
According to Fischer, a similar conclusion was made by Anton Hofreiter, chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee of the German Parliament (Bundestag), after his visit to Georgia.
"Member of Parliament Anton Hofreiter, chairman of the Bundestag's European Union Affairs Committee, was in Tbilisi for 24 hours. Conclusion: Article 23 of the German constitution and a specific law (for German lawyers: EUZBBG) require the consent of the parliament to open accession negotiations. In the current situation, there is no chance for this to happen to Georgia," Fisher wrote.
