Gia Jokhtaberidze, the founder of Magti, criticized the State IP Company OpenNet at the parliamentary session. According to him, the construction of internet infrastructure in the regions should be the prerogative of private operators and the Communications Commission should take care to facilitate this itself. However, in the current reality, the state company raises questions.
“The state created IP company "Open Net" a long time ago. The company did not do anything after the establishment, but last year a tender was announced on the construction of internet infrastructure in 47 villages in Guria and the state allocated 10 million. Let’s do not oppress me and I will construct the infrastructure myself if I see a business niche... why does it need a whip?” - said Gia Jokhtaberidze.
Gia Jokhtaberidze declares that the employee of the Regulator becomes the head of the OpenNet and then their close people construct the internet infrastructure.
Mariam Sulaberidze is the head of OpenNet since 2020. She previously worked in the Communications Commission. She is also the special manager of Caucasus Online.
On August 3, 2020, the state-owned OpenNet signed a $ 10 million contract with Parvus Group without a tender. According to the agreement, the company must arrange the necessary infrastructure for fiber-optic internet in Ozurgeti district. One of the founders of this company is Sulkhan Zumburidze, the former manager of the State Electricians.
