The NBG Governor, Koba Gvenetadze, held a summary presentation of his 7-year activities. He also spoke about the NBG's reforms, including foreign exchange reserves.
According to Koba Gvenetadze, the reserves are currently at a historic maximum, but their additional growth is important.
“The community gathered here does not need to explain what it means to have an adequate amount of international foreign exchange reserves for the country. This is one of the determinants of sovereign ratings, it is the confidence of investors, and it is a decent place next to international partners. I am really proud that with the right policy, the National Bank of Georgia has the highest foreign exchange reserves, which hit a historic high amounting to USD 4.8 billion. However, this is not enough and additional growth is important", Koba Gvenetadze said.
As of January 2023, Georgia's foreign exchange reserves amounted to USD 4.9 billion. Over the past year, foreign exchange reserves have increased by USD 821 million or 20%.
