More than 600 eviction cases in Georgia that were initiated before 2022 are still pending, according to data released by the National Bureau of Enforcement under the Ministry of Justice.

The information was published in response to a parliamentary inquiry by Sofio Khorguani, a member of the “For Georgia” party, who requested details on cases started before 2022 that had not yet been completed, specifically those involving forced eviction from real estate.

According to the Enforcement Bureau, 602 such cases are currently being handled by the Enforcement Police Department, a structural unit of the agency responsible for carrying out enforcement procedures.

The issue relates to changes introduced in 2015, when Georgia abolished the so-called police eviction mechanism. Before the reform, property owners could request police assistance to remove individuals who had illegally occupied their property. Since 2016, however, eviction from residential or commercial premises has only been possible based on a court decision and through enforcement procedures carried out by the Enforcement Police.
