On March 11, the Competition and Consumer Agency, the National Bank of Georgia, the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission of Georgia, the Communications Commission, the State Insurance Supervision Service of Georgia, and the National Food Agency hosted the opening event of the II International Consumer Rights Protection Week.
According to the Agency's Chairperson, during the reporting period, the agency considered more than 700 cases, 65% of which were related to the fact of online trade.
"Approximately 70% of the decisions we made in favor of the consumer resulted in a commitment agreement. In 58 cases, the breach of the consumer group's rights was confirmed, while in 6 cases was not confirmed. Consumers benefited directly from the agency's actions by receiving nearly 500,000 GEL, while 22 traders were fined 30,983 GEL for failing to meet the agency's requirements. During the reporting period, in accordance with the interests of consumers, important standards were established. Among them, in social media - the standard of indicating the price, sending advertising text messages, providing services in the Georgian language, time-limited offers (discounts), indicating the full price in the reference/food menu, and etc." stated Irakli Lekvinadze during his address.
According to its own announcement, the for Competition and Consumer Agency became a partner of the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) in 2023, which brings together the authorities and member organizations of over 80 countries working in this area around the world and serves as an international platform for important interaction among successful countries.
