Paata Burchuladze, Founder of movement Rustaveli Avenue, was taken to a clinic late today for a basic health check-up but assured supporters that he would return to the ongoing protest rally in Tbilisi.
“I’m going for a check-up and I’ll be back, I’ll definitely be back,” Burchuladze told reporters before leaving the protest area.
Meanwhile, demonstrations continue near the Georgian Parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue. Protesters have gathered despite heightened security measures. Law enforcement officers have periodically used water cannons and so-called gas capsules to disperse crowds at Orbeliani Square. Additionally, special forces units have been deployed on Leonidze Street to reinforce police presence.
The rallies form part of a broader wave of protests demanding political and social changes in the country.
