Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said Brussels has become an obstacle to relations between Georgia and individual EU member states, arguing that Tbilisi should strengthen direct bilateral communication with European countries.
Speaking to journalists, Papuashvili accused the European Commission of favouring boycotts over dialogue, which he said contradicts fundamental European values.
“The European Commissioners’ positions were made clear by their responses. We have seen their approach: they favour boycott over dialogue, which goes against core European values,” Papuashvili said.
He noted that some EU member states had expressed interest in dialogue with Georgia, making bilateral engagement particularly important. According to the parliamentary speaker, direct communication with national governments and elected representatives could help persuade Brussels to reconsider its approach.
“It is time for Brussels to return to the European path of dialogue, to openness, the exchange of ideas, and the rejection of confrontation,” Papuashvili added.
