The Parliament has supported the tightening of the rules related to assemblies and demonstrations, and with it, administrative and criminal liability, in the first reading.

The legislative package initiated by the Georgian Dream deputies, which the ruling party is considering in an expedited manner, was unanimously approved by 80 votes.

The amendments initiated by Georgian Dream will be made to eight laws and have already been introduced in the Parliament. The draft legislative amendments have been submitted to committees for consideration, after which they will be submitted to the session.

The authors and initiators of the project are: - Archil Gorduladze, Tornike Cheishvili, Davit Matikashvili, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Guram Macharashvili, Aleksandre Tabatadze and Rati Ionatamishvili.

Reminder, Georgian Dream plans legislative amendments to both the Administrative Offenses and Criminal Codes. More specifically: holding rallies in closed spaces and buildings without the prior consent of the owner will be prohibited; fines for petty hooliganism, vandalism, disobeying the request of a law enforcement officer and insulting them, blocking court entrances, and other similar administrative violations will be increased - the term of administrative detention will also be increased to 60 days; verbal insults to a state political figure or public servant in connection with his or her activities will be defined as an administrative violation; public incitement to violent acts will be defined as imprisonment for a term of up to 3 years; the term of criminal imprisonment for resisting, threatening, and violence against police officers will be increased from 5 to 6 years; sanctions will be tightened for attacks on police officers, government officials, and their family members, in case it is carried out in a group, multiple times, or with dangerous means; The punishment is also increased for violating the health of a police officer; assault or threat of violence against a political official, state servant, or public servant will also be punishable by criminal law.
