TBC Bank Case should have been discussed at the hearing of Economic Policy Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, however majority MPs decided to close the hearing.

Before this decision was announced, Chair of National Bank of Georgia (NBG), Koba Gvenetadze delivered a speech explaining why he came to the Parliament despite NBG’s previous statement that it would not discuss this matter.

“I wasn’t planning not to come to this hearing. This was not said anywhere before. We made argumentative points explaining why it wasn’t right to discuss this issue [TBC Bank case] during the committee hearing. In regards to the other topics, we have stated that we do not have enough information to discuss them, but the committee disregarded this.

According to the chair of parliamentary committee, Roman Kakulia the reason why he asked the MPs whether or not to close the hearing, he said that discussing TBC Bank case in such public manner may carry risks.

“When we discussed this issue in our team, we thought that such format of dialogue could be carrying some risks. I am making this decision [to close the hearing]”, stated Kakulia.

Chair and deputy chair of TBC Bank’s supervisory board also attended the hearing.

After a failed attempt to discuss TBC Bank case in the above mentioned committee, Khazaradze and Japaridze were invited to the hearing of Budget and Finance Committee. Chair of the committee, Irakli Kovzanadze stated that he thinks that the discussion did not go too far today.

Members of Movement for European Georgia have also called upon Kovzanadze to discuss this issue in Budget and Finance Committee.
