Tamar Archuadze, director of Georgia Airports Association declares, that negotiations on starting direct flights with the USA are carried out constantly, but along with the desire, a sufficient number of passengers is necessary.
"As for flights with America, talks and negotiations on this topic are ongoing. In order to operate direct flights it is necessary to organize certain processes both at the airport and at the level of the aviation authority and also in part of negotiations with airlines. However, it is also noted that the amount of passenger flow must be sufficient to make this flight commercially viable. When these calculations and wishes coincide, the flights will definitely take place," said Archuadze.
Georgian side held meetings with American airlines (United Airlines, Delta Airlines, American Airlines) back in September 2019. According to the Ministry of Economy, then the parties discussed the necessary procedural issues for the start of direct air traffic between the two countries and for this purpose, they agreed to deepen the technical cooperation between the aviation authorities.
