According to data from the Statistical Committee of Armenia, the country's transport sector has shown significant growth in passenger transportation.
From January to July 2024, the total number of passengers transported reached 125.7 million, a 22.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
Road transport remains the most popular means of travel for both Armenians and visitors, accounting for 102.5 million passengers, a 24.3% rise from the previous year.
Electric transport also showed positive growth, serving nearly 19.9 million passengers, which is 15.7% more than the previous year.
Although rail transport is not the most widely used in Armenia, it also recorded an 8% increase, transporting 316.2 thousand passengers. The only mode of transportation that saw a slight decline was air transport, with passenger numbers down by 0.5%, serving around 3 million passengers.
Despite the overall growth in passenger numbers, passenger turnover during this period decreased by 21.2%, totaling 2.35 billion passenger-kilometers.
Interestingly, road transport turnover increased by 13.5%, reaching 1.18 billion passenger-kilometers, and electric transport turnover grew by 16.8%, amounting to 79.1 million passenger-kilometers.
At the same time, air transport experienced a significant decline in passenger turnover, down by 42.5%, likely due to a reduction in long-distance flights.
