Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday met with Giorgi Khubua, the newly appointed Rector of Kutaisi International University in the country's west, to discuss plans for the development of new educational programmes at the institution.

Khubua, a Professor and Doctor of Legal Science, served as the Rector of Tbilisi State University, while also authoring over 40 scientific works, seven monographs and a textbook.

The KIU represents the first state university built in Georgia since the country restored its independence in 1991, and has more than 1,200 students after receiving its first wave of students in September 2020.

The Government Administration said the PM expressed his Government’s support, with the meeting also featuring Education Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari.
