Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Janez Janša, Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, as part of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.

The conversation revolved around the friendly relations between Georgia and Slovenia grounded in respect for democracy, freedom, and the fundamental principles of international law and shared European values.

Irakli Garibashvili underlined the successful Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and expressed hope that, throughout said tenure, the agenda of Georgia's EU integration will be addressed even more actively. The Head of Georgian Government emphasized Georgia's progress toward European and Euro-Atlantic integration, also pointing out Georgia's intentions to apply for full EU membership in 2024. The parties discussed the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit and underscored the need to apply the differentiated approach to the partners, as well as the importance of offering more practical mechanisms to the Associated Trio States.

The Prime Ministers also discussed security issues and relevant challenges, both globally and regionally, underlining the significance of deeper defense cooperation.

Irakli Garibashvili thanked the Slovenian side for engagement in the implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package and spoke about the reforms toward NATO integration, also Georgia's role in ensuring Black Sea security as a reliable partner of the Alliance.

The parties singled out Georgia's considerable contribution to international peace missions and the process of evacuation from Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia reaffirmed firm support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the country's European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Irakli Garibashvili thanked Slovenia for co-sponsoring and supporting Georgia-related resolutions in the UN.

The meeting commended the active bilateral trade and economic ties and emphasized the importance of tapping into the full potential in this area.

The conversation also touched on the recent high-level meetings as a demonstration of the positive dynamic in the development of relations between the two countries.
