“The Army Camp project will pique the curiosity of many young people, our children, and the next generation. This is a very important initiative,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili during his address at the inaugural ceremony of the Ministry of Defense’s new project, Army Camp, at the Sergeants’ Academy named after Giorgi Antsukhelidze.
According to him, the army plays a significant role in the development of society.
“We began a large-scale initiative, an army camp project, that I believe would pique the attention of many young people, our children, and the next generation. When we first started working on the idea, there was a lot of interest. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with two ministries, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Education, and, in my opinion, it is a crucial endeavour. This is the first year that this camp is being offered. The camp will host 800 participants, with around 100 students every cycle. The project is scheduled to be finished by the end of August.
The army’s value and, more broadly, the role of our proud armed forces in the development of society is enormous. I feel it is critical to involve our youth from the start, beginning with school. Education should be incorporated in kindergartens, and more awareness should be raised among young people to help them comprehend how the army operates. Kids will get the rare opportunity to learn about military activities and participate in them. On the one hand, this will serve to raise interest in the army. You will personally meet the brave troops of our conflicts, living heroes who will tell you about our army’s heroic deeds – not only heroic actions from the past but daring deeds from our own day, just a few years ago. Yet, I feel this camp will assist in instilling healthy, proper values in our children. In today’s environment, there are just too many temptations for young people. Undoubtedly, Georgia is a part of globalization, thus our young people must establish the proper attitude from the beginning. The involvement of the state is crucial in this process.
Promotion of a healthy lifestyle, right morals, and family values should begin in kindergartens and schools. We implemented military training – defence and security in schools some time ago, which I believe was an important step. The level of interest is increasing by the day. I know from many students that there is a lot of interest in this project, and we need to expand it. We must gradually incorporate this component into all schools and kindergartens.
As previously said, we must identify the correct values for the future generation. I believe that this project and your engagement in this camp will not only allow you to participate in very interesting activities but will also allow you to get to know the military, who will most likely participate in fire training and other training. It is also important to increase patriotic spirit among young people, and more information is available for this.
In general, I believe that not only the role of the family but also the role of the Ministry of Education, the army, and the church, is extremely essential in the young people raising, in defining the proper values,” stated Irakli Garibashvili.
