The Pontus Rotana Resort & Spa Gonio, a landmark international hotel project developed in partnership between Pontus and global hospitality leader Rotana, hosted its traditional 2025 investors’ meeting this September.
For Pontus, September is a symbolic month, marking both the launch of construction and the annual investors’ gathering, now in its second year. The company aims to combine business updates with an authentic Georgian cultural experience, giving investors not only financial insights but also a taste of the country’s rich heritage.

This year’s event drew three times more investors compared to last year. The program began with a gala dinner featuring Georgian dance, polyphonic singing, contemporary music, wine, and traditional dishes. On the second day, investors visited the construction site in Gonio to review progress before heading into the mountains, where they participated in a running marathon. The winners were awarded special prizes, while the day concluded with an immersion in Georgian traditions – churchkhela-making, desserts, sand-brewed coffee, and warm exchanges of culture and friendship.

Several investors shared their impressions of the project and of Georgia’s investment climate.
Mohd Yacob Baker Khawaji, a long-term real estate investor, called Georgia “a small but stable and very promising country.” Having studied the Rotana project in detail, he emphasized its strong potential returns and noted that investing in Georgia also felt like a personal journey: “My grandfather lived in the Caucasus in the 19th century. With this step, I am in a way returning to my roots.”
Another investor, Eric Guluta, will soon celebrate a decade of working with Rotana worldwide. For him, investing in Batumi was an easy decision:
“Georgia is my second home , my wife is Georgian and we own property in Tbilisi. Batumi has always been on my radar as a dynamic and modern market with great potential. Combining this with Rotana’s global expertise made the decision simple. What I value most is Rotana’s transparency. I have invested in many companies, but nowhere else have I had such direct communication. Their attention to clients is unmatched.”
The company’s slogan, “We are building Trust, Not just Investments,” reflects Pontus’s philosophy of placing human value, trust, quality, and progress, at the heart of its business.
Founder Irakli Varshalomidze confirmed during the event that Pontus plans to launch at least two more projects with Rotana in the near future. He emphasized the importance of carrying Georgia’s name abroad through such initiatives, helping international investors not only discover opportunities but also experience the country’s cultural richness.

The Pontus Rotana Resort & Spa, Gonio continues to stand as a powerful symbol of Georgia’s growing appeal in the global real estate and tourism markets, where tradition and modern investment opportunities meet.
