Poti Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) will be connected to the Port of Poti by the railway infrastructure. The project will be implemented by the state company "Georgian Railway".

According to Davit Ebralidze, General Director of the Poti Free Industrial Zone, the cargo must pass through the city to reach the port, therefore the administration of FIZ, together with the government, thinks that the territory of FIZ will be used as a corridor.

As of him, the Poti Free Industrial Zone is the only one operating in Georgia that has a railway infrastructure, so the expansion of this infrastructure is being considered within the framework of the project.

"When the industrial zone was created, the state within its obligations brought all the critical infrastructure to the border, including electricity, water, and the railway, which we expanded with our own efforts and created an additional 150-meter deep alley in the FIZ, which allows our investors to import certain products. The line allows to serve about 7 wagons. It is planned to further expand this area and connect it with Poti Port", Ebralidze said.

According to him, the geological survey of the project has already been completed, which allows the implementation of the project to begin.

"It is not a difficult project. It is possible to organize railway infrastructure on this section in 6 months", Ebralidze says.

The investment cost of the project is unknown at this stage.
