“The ongoing impeachment procedure against the President of Georgia does not help to depolarize the situation in Georgia. On the contrary, it fuels polarization,” said Pawel Herczynski, EU Ambassador to Georgia.
According to Pawel Herczynski, the court’s decision “should be respected.”
“You asked me about the ongoing impeachment process of the President. As you all know, now the case is with the Constitutional Court of Georgia. I don’t want to comment. It’s for the Constitutional Court to pronounce itself. I understand that both the representatives of the President as well as the ruling party have provided their arguments. I’m waiting, as all of us are waiting, for the opinion of the court. That, of course, we have to respect.
What I can say is to repeat what I have already said many times and what High Representative, Vice President Josep Borrell said, when he was here in Tbilisi only a few weeks ago. The ongoing impeachment procedure against the President of Georgia does not help to depolarize the situation in Georgia. On the contrary, it fuels polarization, as we have been all witnessing over the last couple of days,” he said.
